Railway bridge Zwolle, May-June 2009

The new railway bridge over the river IJssel will be a remarkable appearance. The elegant, dark red bridge will have a length of about one kilometer. With an arch of 150 meter and a headway of at least 9 meters the navigation can pass without any troubles. The new IJsselbridge will replace the existing bridge built in 1936 and will be employed earlier than the Hanzelijn. From mid 2011 the railway traffic between Zwolle and Amersfoort will travel over the new bridge. (Live webcam bridge over the IJssel ) (Bron: Prorail)

The steal beams are transported by ship from Germany to the Katwolderhaven in Zwolle. From there the transport takes place by road to the offloading site next to the river IJssel. The beams each have the dimensions of 40m00 x 3m40 x 3m40 and a weight between 100 and 120t. This project is divided in stages. This stage we transported eight beams with two combinations of vehicles, and they transported during two nights two beams per night each.Similar stages will follow in near future.
